Welcome To Our Newest Trustees!

Over the past couple of months we have had the pleasure of welcoming two new members to our Board of Trustees, and we would like to introduce them to you!

Karen D’Arcy of New Lenox is the Board Chairman of the Land Conservancy of Will County, where she has been since 2005.

She is also a founding member and chairman of the Thorn Creek Ecosystem Partnership, a volunteer with Governors State University, Restore for Habitat for Humanity in Joliet, and a citizen scientist with Illinois RiverWatch.

Karen has also been an active part of the Hickory Creek Watershed BioBlitz, working with researchers to sample and identify aquatic organisms.

“I’m excited to join a group that’s so impactful in protecting our streams and rivers,” she said.

Jeff Wehrli of Oswego has joined The Conservation Foundation’s Board of Trustees after retiring as Kendall County Forest Preserve president for six years.

Jeff served on the Kendall County Board for a total of 13 year, also serving as a forest preserve commissioner during that time. He worked with the assistance of The Conservation Foundation to pass two referenda totaling $50 million, which was used to purchase and improve Kendall County forest preserves.

Jeff grew up in Naperville, where the Wehrli name goes back generations. He said the subdivision he grew up in included large wooded lots. He remembers he had two rules as a kid: lunch is at noon and dinner is at six. He said he would like his granddaughter to enjoy the outdoors as he did as a child.

We would like to thank both Karen and Jeff for being willing to serve our organization and help improve the health of our human and natural communities.
