Thank you to Stockholm’s for supporting clean water in the Fox River by donating the proceeds of their water charge to The Conservation Foundation! And thanks to you for chipping in $.50!
We’re a nonprofit working to save nature in northeastern Illinois through the support of our members.
Be A Winter Chloride Watcher
The Conservation Foundation is kicking off a partnership with Illinois River Watch Network to bring the Winter Chloride Watchers program to northeastern Illinois. We are looking for volunteers to help us gather data on chlorides (a component of road salt) so we can better understand the impacts of winter snow and ice removal operations on our environment and track the benefits of implementing Salt Smart Practices that keep people safe while reducing the amount of salt used.
Participation in the program is simple:
1) Attend an in-person or virtual training this fall (dates coming soon), and pick up your test kit materials.
2) Collect a water sample at least once a month from November to May at the same location – a stream, lake, or pond near you.
3) Use the test strips to measure the amount of chloride in the water, and record data and a picture on the “Water Reporter” app.
The support of more than 5,000 members and 500 volunteers helps us carry out our mission to improve the health of our communities by preserving and restoring open space and natural lands, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of our environment in northeastern Illinois. Every dollar donated supports our work to ensure future generations have access to and appreciation for our region’s natural resources.
