Education is a key component of promoting sustainable design. Here are some activities we are doing and other training opportunities we have heard about.
Upcoming Events
May 25th, 2010 Spill Responses and Stormwater Management Plans Workshop
DuPage County Stormwater Management and The Conservation Foundation will be hosting a free half day NPDES compliance workshop on spill responses and Stormwater Management Program Plans (SMPP) on Tuesday, May 25th beginning at 8:15 am in the Auditorium of the Jack T. Knuepfer Administration Building at 421 N County Farm Rd, Wheaton.  Three Professional Development Hours (PDH's) will be offered. Refreshments and continental breakfast will be provided as well. 

Speakers from the Addison Fire Protection District, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), Bleck Engineering and the Village of Gurnee will discuss hazardous materials responses as well as the creation of Stormwater Management Program Plans. A spill response plan and a SMPP are important parts of an effective illicit discharge detection and elimination and pollution prevention programs.  Click here to see the flier for more specific information on this NPDES training in May and how to register for the seminar.

February 22nd, 2010 Natural Areas Management Technical Workshop
The Conservation Foundation, with the support of DuPage County Stormwater Management, hosts Technical Workshops for environmental professionals and interested parties free of charge.  The Technical Workshops are part of TCF’s work with the County to assist in National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance and education.  Topics vary and workshops are usually held for half a day twice a year.

The Natural Areas Management Technical Workshop held at the Jack T. Knuepfer Administration Building Auditorium had nearly 100 registrants who listened to five presentations on different areas of natural areas management including natural areas management in general, specification writing, pond maintenance and more.  Follow the link to the agenda where there are additional links to the presentations.


February 18th, 2010 Beyond the Basics Seminar
The Beyond the Basics: Green Infrastructure for Clean Water held in Woodridge attracted nearly 250 attendees from across our region and hosted 18 different presentations on the topic of Green Infrastructure and Stormwater Best Management Practices showcasing the expertise we have in northeastern Illinois. September 2008 Beyond the Basics Seminar
Conservation design is a cornerstone of sustainable development... yet implementation is hindered by concerns over proper techniques, success rates and return on investment.  The Conservation Foundation hosted a seminar on September 10th, 2008 to work towards addressing some of these top challenges to facilitate integration of conservation design principles in new development. Follow the link for more information and to download seminar materials and presentations.
