Beyond the Basics Background
Since the early 2000’s we have hosted a number of workshops and seminars that focus on Best Management Practices (BMPs) for stormwater management and stream restoration. These offerings have evolved over the years and are now coordinated more broadly with our partners to meet the growing need for in-depth information to help communities meet current and proposed regulatory requirements. In 2008, we held our first Beyond the Basics: Stormwater BMP Seminar – an all day, multi-track seminar focused on how to get stormwater management done right in our region. This seminar is now held every 18 months, alternating between spring and fall.  Specific goals help guide the trainings we host throughout the year.

Seminar Series Goals

Showcase the expertise of local talent in the region - we have the ability to make clean water happen in Northeastern Illinois.

Broaden the discussion of stormwater management to include all relevant departments; these are complex problems that need a multi-disciplinary approach.

Best management practices require funded, long-term management for true success to be achieved.
